STRONTIUM 90 IN FINNISH GRASS AND COW'S MILK
>Investigations were made on possible variations in the Sr/sup 90/ content of milk and grass in different parts of Finland and on the general level of Sr/sup 90/ in milk from the region of highest milk production at the end of the summer season 1959. The Sr/sup 90/ content of wide-area milk samples was found to vary from 7.9 to 9.8, the mean being 8.7 mu mu c Sr/sup 90/g Ca. The Sr/sup 90/ content of milk samples from experimental farms varied from 3.6 to 11.6, the mean being 5.7 mu mu c Sr/sup 90/g Ca. This is significantly lower than the corresponding country-wide value for southeastern Finland. Discussion is given as to how the values for Sr/sup 90/ content in milk in Finland compare to values for other countries. It was concluded that the Sr/sup 90/ content of milk in southern Finland is slightly lower than in the other countries in northern and western Europe. The value obtadned for the discrimination factor grass-milk was 0.048. (P.C.H.)
