The introduction of 0.15 to 0.20% zirconium in aluminum alloy type 7075 increases the degree of critical cold working, opposes efficaciously the recrystallization of extruded or forged pieces at elevated heat treating, and increases the mechanical resistance and the fatigue limit of the alloy. Zirconium does not alter the plasticity of the alloy in the hot condition and does not influence the variations of mechanical characteristics which are caused by varying age-hardening conditions. Its antirecrystallizing action consents to reduce the chromium content, which, when superior to 0.2%, can stimulate dangerous segregations of CrAl/sub 7/. (auth)
