THE PROBLEM OF PLASTICITY OF BERYLLIUM (in German)

Journal Article · · changed to MTLLA
OSTI ID:4797762
The physical properties of beryllium are reviewed. The temperature dependence of the Worth factors is compared with those of other reactor materials. The temperature dependence of the tensile strength and elongation of hotpressed rods is shown. The structure of beryllium crystals is discussed. The brittleness of the beryllium is explained on the basis of the "two-dimensional" plasticity existing in the structure. Conditions necessary for the formation of this type of plasticity are described. The brittleness of the beryllium appeared to be caused both by crystal structure and impurities. (M.C.G.)
