THE POLAR CAP ABSORPTION EFFECT

Journal Article · · Space Science Reviews (Netherlands)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1007/BF00174638· OSTI ID:4797629
Techniques for observing polar-cap absorption (PCA) events are outiined. The characteristics, time sequences, associated solar-terrestial phenomena, and effects of geomagnetic storms on PCA events are reviewed. The height of the absorbing region during the PCA event is considered. Solar radio emission during a Type-IV radio outburst is investigated, and the natures and spectra of solar particles that may be associated with PCA events are examined. The emission and interplanetary storage of solar protons is considered. The relations between PCA events and other solar-terrestial effects are studied. (T.F.H.)
