A thermal insulation is designed for covering the interior surface of a reactor pressure vessel. The insulation comprises a plurality of panels of expanded metal sheeting as described in British Patent 891,353 and held in position on the pressure vessel surface by strips of metallic insulating material. Caps are left between the panels to accommodate thermal expansion or contraction of the pressure vessel. (D.L.C.)
