CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE STUDY OF IMMEDIATE AND EARLY X-RAY REACTIONS WITH REGARD TO CHEMOPROTECTION. V. LIBERATION OF SEROTONIN (AND OTHER AMINES) IN THE FROG AFTER X-IRRADIATION

Journal Article · · Intern. J. Radiation Biol.

It is shown that in hypophysectomized frogs the aggregated melanophore pigment will expand in response to moderate total-body x-irradiation. The effect is shown to be mediated by the liberation of neurohormones, and serotonin is indicated specially. The methods were partial shielding, paper chromatography of the renal excretion on serotonin after x-irradiation, and reflection photometry of small pieces of frog's skin. (auth)
