INFRARED SPECTRA AND FORCE CONSTANTS OF CH$sub 2$Cl$sub 2$, AND CD$sub 2$Cl$sub 2$

Deuterated dichloromethanes, CHDCl/sub 2/ and CD/sub 2/ and CD/sub 2/Cl/ sub 2/, were prepared. Their infrared spectra were measured in the gaseous and liquid states and were compared with those of CH/sub 2/Cl/sub 2/. The assignments of bands were made. From these frequencies, the simple Urey-Bradley force constants, the modified Urey-Bradley force constants, and the general quadratic potential force constants were calculated. The importance of the correction term ( DELTA alpha )( DELTA alpha ) was noticed. From the calculated values of the L/sub alpha /-matrix the modes of normal vibrations were determined. (auth)
