Observation and measurement of behavior of porous materials when rapidly compressed. Experimental techniques and apparatus which may be used to obtain data regarding the behavior of porous media when impulsively loaded are described and discussed
The apparatus and techniques used for the study of the behavior of porous materials when impulsively loaded are described. Observations are made of the displacement-time history of steel plates, which have been accelerated by means of explosives, as they are retarded by specimens of wood and other porous materials. Preliminary dynamic stress-strain data and some observations of compression wave propagation in porous media are presented.
