Radioactive Contamination of the Biosphere in the Netherlands; RADIOACTIEVE BESMETTING VAN DE BIOSFEER IN NEDERLAND

Thesis/Dissertation ·
OSTI ID:4795823
A study on the radioactive contamination of the biosphere is presented. In the first section the radiation dose from natural radioactivity is considered. Measurements of artificial activity in the air and rain water, carried out during 1955 and 1956, are discussed. The possible hazards to public health of the increased dose level are summarized. The methods used for continuous determination of fission products in air and rain water are reported. Investigations on the properties of the radioactive dust in the atmosphere are indicated. The corrections for geometry and for absorption of beta particles in the sample and the window of the counter are determined. In conclusion, the results of measurements of airborne and deposited radioactive dust are given. (J.S.R.)
