IODOTHYRONINES AND WHOLE-BODY IRRADIATION OF THE MOUSE WITH X RAYS (in French)

Journal Article · · Compt. rend. soc. biol.
OSTI ID:4795378
The action of natural and synthetic iodothyronines on the radioresistance of pure C/sub 57/ mouse stock was studied. The results showed that neither L- nor D-thyroxine nor the various triiodothyronines, in which the NH/sub 2/ group of the alanine is free, have any protective effect. L-thyroxine, L-3,5, 3' -triiodothyronine, and the various azo-triiodothyronines tested are slightly radiosensitizing. Dthyroxine is, from this point of view, inactive. It is probable that the increase of metabolic activity by the various iodothyronines, added to the elevation of the metabolism observed very soon after irradiation, accelerates mortality. (tr-auth)
