STUDY ON THE PREPARATION OF THE NEW NUCLEAR EMULSIONS BY USE OF POLYVINYL ALCOHOL AND THEIR PHOTOGRAPHIC PROPERTIES ON RADIATION RAYS

Very fine grains of silver bromide could be dispersed into polyvrnyl alcohol (PVA) solution wrthout producing therr coarse grains by use of the simultaneous mixing method, and the thermoreversible gel of PVA solution could be formed by use of the freezing method. These methods were applied to produce the new nuclear emulsions which contained 70% of AgBr by weight by using PVA as the protective colloid, and these were successful. The new PVA nuclear plate was able to record the clear delineation of track of alpha particles in its emulsion layer, and as to the photographic dosimetry of gamma rays the plate showed sufficrent blackening on gamma ray radiation in the range of 10/sup 2/ to 6 x 10/sup 3/ roentgens. The hypersensitization of the emulsion by trrethanolamine on radiation rays and the fading effect of the latent image of radiation rays were discussed. (auth)
