>OBIUM POWDER. V. M. Amosov. Tsvetnye Metally, An anaiysls was made of technological processes in vacuum calcination of Nb powder with high admixture contents, average granule sizes of 60 to 8 mu , and loose weights of 2.05 to 2.10 g/cm/sup 3/. Calcination of 20 x 20 x 600 mm, 1.2 kg bars of --88.0% Nb, 2.9% Ta, --5% O2, 3.35% C, 0.85% Fe, 0.35% Ni, 0.2% Ti, and 0.5% W produced plastic metal that was rolled into 0.1 mm thick strip. Before rolling the bar was cold forged and treated at 2300 deg C for 1 to 2 hours for final recrystallization and pore welding. The strip contained 99.3% (Nb + Ta), 0.03% C, 0.1% Ti, and 0.5% W. Ni and Fe were not found. (R.V.J.)
