GAMMA-RAY DISCRIMINATION IN A PROTON-RECOIL PROPORTIONAL COUNTER

A technique for discriminating against gamma background in proton-recoil proportional counters based on changes in the pulse profile is described. The lower useful energy limit of a counter filled with a propane-nitrogen gas mixture and placed in a broad fast-neutron spectrum was extended from 400 to 100 kev. (auth)
