The range of the radiation polymerization dosimeter, originally developed to indicate the absorption of large doses of radiation without the use of any auxiliary equipmeat, was extended from 300 to 107 rads. Extensive investigations disclosed the absence of dose-rate dependence at dose-rates above 2500 rads/min, and the absence of energy dependence for x and gamma rays with half-value thickness above 1.0 mm of copper, and for high-energy electron beams. Temperature dependence during irradiation between -- 5 and 38 deg C was found to be 5%. Cells designed for large doses can be stored for several months at room temperature without significant change in dose. High-sensitivity cells stored at room temperature suffer a dose change of approximately 1% per day but can be stored for several months at 0 deg F or below without significant change in dose. The dosimetric cells are small (1/2 ml volume), expendable, have a sharp, irreversible end-point, and may be read instantly by untrained personnel.
