RESONANCE SCATTERING OF GAMMA-RAYS BY IMPURITY NUCLEI LOCATED IN A SOLID (in Ukrainian)
The excitation and scattering spectra of gamma rays are calculated with allowance made for the change in the frequencies of normal-mode oscillations and the equilibrium positions of impurity atoms with gamma transitions, making two assumptions: the spectrum of the incident gamma rays (within the width of the phonon part of the excitation or scattering spectrum) is constant; and the energy of the gamma rays is much greater than the width of the phonon part of the spectrum. It is shown that in the case of considerable heat production and dispersion of the frequencies of normal oscillations of a solid, the excitation spectrum has the form of a quasi-gaussian curve with an intense line of natural width (Mossbauer line) on its long-wave side; and in the case of low heat production the spectrum is the sum of the Lorentz curves of natural width. The spectrum of scattered gamma rays does not coincide in form with the radiation spectrum, except in the case when the observation is conducted at an angle of pi /2. ln the case of great heat production and dispersion the spectrum has the form of a quasi-gaussian curve with a Mossbauer line on the short-wave side, while in the case of low heat production it constitutes the sum of the Lorentz curves. The positions of the excitation and the scattering spectra (including the Mossbauer lines) depend on the temperature. The spectrum of scattered soft'' gamma rays is also calculated for the case when the spectrum of the incident gamma rays has the form of a Lorentz curve. It is shown that the width of the Mossbauer line in the scattering spectrum is less than the natural width if the spectrum of the incident gamma rays has a natural width and its maximum coincides with that of the Mossbauer line.
