DEVELOPMENT OF RESISTANCE WELDING TECHNIQUE FOR THERMOCOUPLE ATTACHMENT

An investigation was undertaken to develop a method for attaching Pt-Ft- l0Rh thermocouples by resistance welding to thin 80 Ni-20 Cr clad fuel sheet and produce metallurgically sound joints or nuggets. Data and microstructures are shown to illustrate that the a-c type resistance welder is capable of producing metallurgically sound welds consistently and without surface damage to the fuel sheet. Recommended welding techniques for producing metallurgically sound resistance welds are given. (auth)
