MULTIPLE MESON PRODUCTION IN $pi$$sup -$-p COLLISIONS AT 4.7 Bev/c

A study was made of --1300 four-prong events obtained by exposing a liquid hydrogen bubble chamber to a 4.7 Bev/c pi /sup -/ beam. The effective mass distributions for 2 and 3 body combinalions that exhibit resonances are presented. The production hypotheses considered for each event were: + p, pi / sup -/ + p yields 2 pi /sup -/ + pi /sup +/ + p + pi /sup 0/, pi /sip -/ + p yields 2 pi /sup -/ + p + pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ + p yields 2 pi /sup -/ + 2 pi /sup +/ + n, and pi /sup -/ + p yields 2 pi /sup -/ + 2 pi /sup +/.
