The operational principles and interactions of various recording points of a device used for measuring multiple scattering and ionization along fast, heavy-particle tracks were studied. Aspects of precision and stability are discussed. The device is capable of measuring multiple scattering along tracks of particles with various energies at a rate of 200 mu /sec and ionization at 100 mu /sec. (tr-auth)
