An apparatus is described for manufacture of helically finned tubing for use, e.g., in heat exchangers in gas-cooled atomic power plants. In the operation of the apparatus, at least one U-sectioned strip constituting the fins is wound helically onto a tube and is bonded to the tube surface by electric resistance seam welding. (D.L.C.)
