ON THE CONSTITUTION OF ZIRCONIUM-NIOBIUM ALLOYS. Special Report No. 1

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4790643
An investigation of the Nb--Zr system revealed that even when iodide zirconium with 99.9% purity was used, the oxygen content of the smelted alloys imparts a decidedly ternary character to the constitution pattern. The result is that the monotectoid point of the binary system extends over a transformation range which, for alloys made of iodide zirconium, spreads over some l00 deg C and for those made of sponge zirconium, over more than 200 deg C.
