THE EFFECT OF COLD WORK ON MECHANICAL PROPERTIES AND ITS RECOVERY IN ZIRCALOY-2

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4790376

The effect of various levels of cold work up to 35% in the transverse direction and up to 50% in the longitudinal direction on the tensile properties of cold-rolled plate were measured at room temperature and at 300 deg C. The strength at room temperature was found to be almost the same in the two directions, but at 300 deg C the transverse direction was weaker for all values of cold work. Room-temperature tensile tests were done on cold-worked Zircaloy-2 after prolonged annealing at 280 deg C and 300 deg C to measure the extent of recovery. It was found that a certain amount of recovery does occur at these temperatures. (auth)
