WIDTH OF PHOTON LINE PRODUCED BY POSITRON ANNIHILATION AT 15 Mev

Journal Article · · Nuclear Instr. & Methods
The energy spread of the photon line produced by arnihi lation of 15-Mev positrons in a thin LiH target was measured. Positrons are produced by bombarding a Ta target with 10-Mev electrons from a linear accelerator. The positrons are accelerated to sbout 15 Mev in a second accelerator section and then energy-analyzed with a bending msnnet-slit assembly. The photon line width measurement was made by counting the number of photons elastically scattered from the l5.ll-Mev level of C/sup 12/ as a function of positron energy setting. The annihilation photon line was found to have a full width at half maximum of 0.45 plus or minus 0.05 Mev. An annihilation photon energy spectrum was calculated and found to be in agreement with experimental results. (auth)
