A MONTE CARLO STUDY OF RESONANCE ESCAPE PROBABILITY IN HETEROGENEOUS SLAB LATTICES CONTAINING RESONANT ABSORBERS AND SCATTERERS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4790010
Resonance escape probabilities for heterogeneous semiinfinite slab lattice systems were computed by the Monte Carlo method at I kev to 0.l25 ev. Absorber-moderator combinations considered were W--H/sub 2/O, W-- LiH, W--BeO, Au --H/sub 2/O, Au -- LiH, and Au-- BeO. Absorber and moderator thickness and absorber temperature were varied in a parametric study. The Monte Carlo results of neutron absorption for various thicknesses of W and Au slabs at room temperature are in good agreement with experimental results from NASA solution reactor absorption measurements on comparable W and Au samples.
