IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO NUCLEAR REACTOR FUEL ELEMENTS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4789824
A reactor fuel element is designed with means for reducing excessive temperatures at the ends due to neutronflux peaking. The fuel element is of conventional construction with a fuel member, a finned sheath, and means for stacking such fuel elements in a vertical column, but the ends of the fuel member are terminated with breeder material such as depleted U which absorbs neutrons without fission and thereby lowers the temperature.
