Ruthenium nitrosyl porphyrins, [(TPP)Ru(NO)(H{sub 2}O)]BF{sub 4} and (TPP)Ru(NO)(ONO) (TPP = 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin) were synthesized and characterized electrochemically and spectroscopically. NMR and mass spectra were recorded for the compounds, X-ray crystal structures were obtained, and cyclic voltammetric studies were performed. The H{sub 2}O and ONO ligands are found to be labile to pyridine replacement under certain conditions.
