Point Source Technique for Gamma Ray Absorption Studies
A new technique for gamma absorptiometric analysis of solutions with a radioactive source such as Am241 is reported. The Am is contained as a point source placed in the center of the sample solution. Very little americium is required, about 10-8 g; hence the cost is negligible and radiation hazards are eliminated. Finally, gamma absorption curves for Am, Ca, Cu, Hg, Ag, and U are given.
