ROTATING FLUID COMPRESSORS

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4786893
A rotating fluid compressor consisting of a driving shaft passing through a shell containing a fluid of a pressure being essentially equal to the pressure at the other side or a little higher is described. A labyrinth seal is provided between the wall and the driving shaft and is connected in the middle of its length with an exhaust line connecting the seal via filter means with the inlet of the compressor so that any fluid leakage of the seal passes through the exhaust line. Any contamination such as oil or oil vapor coming from the other side of the wall is eliminated by these filter means. A gasket is provided between the compressor rotor and the inner surface of the wall, so that by an axial displacement of the driving shaft this gasket ensures fluid tightness when the compressor is stopped so that the motor casing of the compressoi nday be removed for maintenance procedures.
