The ratio of the rate constants for the abstraction of a deuterium atom by a CD/sub 3/ radical from C/sup 14/D/sub 4/ and CD/sub 3/)/sub 2/CO in the gas phase was determined at five temperatures in the range 200 to 350 deg C. It was concluded that for the reaction CD/sub 3/ + C/sup 14/D/sub 4/ yields CD/sub 4/ + C/sup 14/ D/sub 3/, log/sub 10/k (1. mole/sup -1/sec/sup -1/ = cussed in relation to the reaction CH/sub 3/ + C/sup 14/H/sub 4/ yields CH/sub 4/ + C/sup 14/H/sub 3/ and to isotope effects in other gaseous hydrogen-atom transfer reactions.
