CHROMIUM-BASE ALLOY DEVELOPMENT

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4786311
BS>Progress in the development of chromium-base alloys for high- temperature applications is reported. The products of the major producers of high-purity chromium have been evaluated. Procedures have been established for melting and casting 10- to 70-pound ingots and converting these into useful sheet and bar products. These procedures include melting by the consumable arc, induction and nonconsumable skull process, and fabrication by press forging, extrusion, rolling and swaging. The major alloy systems investigated included Cr- Y, Cr- Fe-Al-Y, Cr-Re-AlY, and Cr-Ti- Zr-C-Y. Data on oxidation resistance, brittle-ductile transition temperature and tensile and stress-rupture properties are reported. (auth)
