ELECTROSTRICTION VALVE
An accurately controlled, pulse gas valve is designed capable of delivering output pulses which vary in length from one-tenth millisecond to one second or more, repeated at intervals of a few milliseconds or- more. The pulsed gas valve comprises a column formed of barium titanate discs mounted in stacked relation and electrically connected in parallel, with means for applying voltage across the discs to cause them to expand and effect a mechanical elongation axially of the column. The column is mounted within an enclosure having an inlet port and an outlet port with an internal seat in communication with the outlet port, such that a plug secured to the end of the column will engage the seat of the outlet port to close the outlet port in response to the application of voltage is regulated by a conventional electronic timing circuit connected to the column.
