The ionization potential of the cyclopropyl radical was calculated to be 7.5 plus or minus 0.4 ev and for cyclopropyl cyanide to be 11.2 plus or minus 0.2 ev. Heats of formation of the various gaseous ions were calculated as DELTA H/sub f/ + (C/sub 3/H/sub 5/CH) = 30l, LAMBDA H/sub f/ + (C/sub 3/H/sub 4/CN) = 298, LAMBDA H/sub f/(C/sub 3/H/sub 5/) = 68, an d LAMBDA H/sub f/ + (C/sub 3/H/ sub 5/) = 246 kcal/mole. Reasons are given for the contention that C/sub 3/H/sub 5/ is the cyclopropyl rather than allyl radical. (P.C.H.)
