WIDE RANGE CURRENT DETECTOR
Technical Report
·
OSTI ID:4784271
A wide range current detector was designed to produce an indicating signal if the current in a 120-volt a-c line should exceed 70 ma, but would not permit burnout of the detector if the current should approach 50 amp. Germanium diodes were used for the rectifying bridge. The size of the 5-ohm shunting resistor was calculated on the basis of current flow through the diodes and the 13-ohm coil impedance of the relay at pickup. Two high-current silicon rectifiers were placed in parallel across the 5-ohm resistor to shunt all high alternating currents. Tests indicated the device to be adequate for the specified current.
