Measurement of Atmospheric Contamination by "Double Mandarin"; CONTROLE DE LA CONTAMINATION ATMOSPHEREIQUE PAR "DOUBLE MANDARIN"

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4783698

To check the radioactivity of the air in laboratories where Pu is handled, an apparatus known as Double Mandarin'' was devised. This instrument distinguishes Pu dusts from those which carry natural active deposits by raaking use of the granulometric difference. The separation is based on the use of selective filters placed in series. An electronic unit enables the activities of the dusts collected on the two filters to be measured continuously and immediately. This apparatus is simple in design and should provide a means of checking atmospheric contamination. Its performance is particularly satisfactory in the case of laboratories where the air is fiitered. Under these conditions it is possible to detect 70 times the CMA after one minute and 7 times this concentration in 10 minutes. (auth)
