A new method of preparing niobium pentabromide is described, and the enthalpies of niobium pentabromide and oxytribromide hydrolysis are determined calorimetrically. The heats of formation of niobium pentabromide and oxytribromide are DELTA H/sup 0/= --132.2 plus or minus 1.2 and --179.3 plus or minus 1.0 kcal/ mole, respectively. (R.V.J.)
