INDUCTION HEATER POWER CONTROLLER
The design of an automatic power controller for the output power of a 20 kw radiofrequency induction heater is presented. Controlling the output power of the heater results in constant power delivered to the load and, barring physical changes in the load, maintains the load at a constant temperature. The output power is proportional to the mean-square value of the radiofrequency current in the load coil. The load current is sensed by an inductrvely coupled pick-up loop. The mean-square value of the pickup-loop voltage is measured and used as the feed- back signal in the closed loop controller. It is the characteristic of using the mean-square value of the voltage that allows this controller to maintain a nearly constant load temperature. (auth)
