THE DYNAMICS OF RADIATION DAMAGE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4782181
Calculations of radiation damage to face-centered-cubic metallic crystals, in particular copper crystals, are presented to give a more intimate view of events occurring in the lattice at low and moderate energies. The results show that damage at low energies consists of vacancies and interstitials and that the regular arrangement of atoms on a lattice has an important influence on the character of damage events. The calculations have proved the feasibility of simulating events of radiation damage by mathematical models on high speed computers. (N.W.R.)
