HAZARDS SUMMARY REPORT ON HIGH FLUX TEST REACTOR FOR CANEL

A hazards summary is presented for a 45-Mw high-flux test reactor for CANEL. Mechanical design, reactor building, reactor physics, process design, and operational procedures are discussed. The following typical experiments are outlined: circulating fuel in-pile loop, NaK-cooled fuel element in-pile test loop, and aircraft reactor control rod in-pile test. Accidents due to human error, failure of reactor components, failure of experimental apparatus, the maximum catastrophe, and make-up and hazards to the surrounding area are described. (M.C.G.)
