Transport mechanisms for fuel element cassettes can be improved and simplified if pressure cylinders operating wtth a gaseous or liquid medium are provided with a feed of movable suspended ordered cassettes of long length indirectly coupled at the cassette end. Piston rods acting on the cassette end are coupled by a parallel drive or pull rod so that the piston travels identical paths in spite of opposing forces. One of the pistons is solidly connected with the drive rods, whereas the other has a slipping connection and is therefore detachable or disengageable. (J.S.R.)
