MEASUREMENT OF RANGE AND INTENSITY OF CYCLOTRON BEAMS

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4780585
An assembly of a Faraday cup, foil wheel, and target holder is described. Provision is made for the convenient measurement of the energy of cyclotron- accelerated ions by means of their range in aluminum, and for determination both of instantaneous and of integrated beam intensity. This system is intended for use in the measurement of cross sections and excitation functions by the activation of metal foils or other in targets. As a check on its operation, the ion Bi/sup 209/( alpha ,2n) At/sup 211/ was measured and found to be 0.99 plus or minus 0.04 barns at about 30.5 Mev, in agreement with previous determinations.
