IMPROVED MAGNESIUM ALLOYS

A Mg alloy is described which resists oxidation by CO/sub 2/ or CO/sub 2/ --air at 50O deg C and has good mechanical properties at 200 to 500 deg C for use as reactor fuel element canning. The alloy consists of 0.3to 1.0% Zr, 0.05to 0.5% Mn, 0 to 2.0% Zn, 0.011 to 0.5% Be, and balance Mg. The alloy is a development of the Mg alloys described in British Patent
