Design factors of a preamplifier for use in the start-up region of nuclear reactors are discussed. A transistorized preamplifier is developed. Experimental data of this device are as follows: internal noise (at input terminal), less than 8 mu v; gain, about 41 db; dynamic range (at output terminal), 0.9 mv to 10 v; pulse resolution, better than 0.5 mu sec; input impedance, about 5.6 k OMEGA ; output impedance, about 40 OMEGA ; and amplitude stability, better than plus or minus 0.5% for d-c source-voltage change of plus or minus 10% or room temperature change of 0 to 45 deg C, (auth)
