BOUNDARY LAYER IN THERMAL RADIATION ABSORBING AND EMITTING MEDIA
A boundary layer problem concerned with the effects of incident thermal radiation upon absorbing and emitting media flowing over a wedge was considered. The general boundary layer problem was formulated in terms of an equation of transfer for thermal radiation, a nonlinear integro-differential equation which represents conservation of energy, and the usual equations for conservation of mass and momentum. Because no general solution for these equations is possible, the Rosseland approximation for the radiant heat flux vector is used to make the energy equation solvable. Numerical solutions for heat transfer and the temperature distribution in the wedge boundary layer are given. Calculations are presented for a fluid whose Prandtl number is one, as well as for molten Pyrex glass. (auth)
