POLAROGRAPHIC RESEARCH ON PLUTONIUM (in German)

Pu/sup 4+/ in acetate solution gives, at --0.2V (saturated calomel), a polarographic wave which corresponds to reduction to Pu/sup 3+/. The wave is proportional to concentration but not reversible. The dependence of the half- wave potential and the diffusion on the temperature and the acetate ion concentration was investigated. For solutions of Pu/sup 4+/ in diiute acids, irreversible waves were obtained at --lV (saturated caiomel) whose height in HClO/ sub 4/ between 10/sup -4/ and 10/sup -5/M Pu/sup 4+/ was proportional to concentration and corresponded to maximum possible reduction of the plutonium amalgam.
