COMPARISON OF THE EFFECT OF ELECTRON IRRADIATION ON THE OPTICAL ACTIVITY OF RACEMATES AND OPTICAL ANTIPODES (in Russian)

In connection with the assertions repeatedly appearing in the literature that electrons emitted during BETA decay or even accelerated in a microtron exert different effects on mirror isomers (antipodes), a detailed experimental investigation of the effect of electron irradiation of solid racemates and separated forms of optical isomers on their optical activity has been carried out for fourteen different organic compounds. The electron sources used were the BETA - active isotope Rh/sup 104/, the microtron, and a cascade accelerating tube. In all cases investigated neither the appearance of optical activity of tae irradiated racemates nor a difference in the action of irradiation on the optical antipodes was observed. (auth)
