Computations of the atomic heats of the four sodium halides are presented and compared with the measured values. The spectroscopic data are the basis of the calculations in the case of NaCl and the atomic vibration frequencies determined from the elastic constants in the others. The vibration frequencies for NaF were corrected to take account of the interactions between atoms of the same species which are strong in that crystal. (auth)
