HEAT DIODE CONVERTER. Interim Scientific Report No. 3, November 1, 1962 to January 31, 1962

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4773816
Activities in a program of theoretical and experimental studies concerning the characteristics of the plasma and cathode of a thermionic converter are reported. During the report period, efforts were devoted largely toward development of various test vehicles. The remaining contract time will be devoted to research on cathode characteristics, especially their interaction with Cs vapor. Data and information obtained in research on current voltage characteristics of a Mo cathode in variable spacing Cs cells are given. Other research is reported on thermionic emission from materials in Cs vapor, evaporation of Mo in presence of Cs vapor, electron reflection from Cs-coated surfaces, and Cs vapor thermal conductivity.
