TEST OF CHARGE SYMMETRY OF K$sup +$ AND K$sup 0$ MESONS IN THE ASSOCIATED PRODUCTION PROCESS
A charge-symmetry experiment is described in which the 72-in. bubble chamber was filled with liquid deuterium and a beam of positive pions at 1.23 Bev/ c was directed from the Bevatron into it. The reactions studied include pi /sup +/ +d yields LAMBDA (or EPSILON /sup 0/) + K/sup +/ + p, pi /sup -/ + d yields LAMBDA (or E/sup 0/) + K/sup 0/ + n, pi /sup +/ + d yields p + LAMBDA + K/sup +/ , pi /sup -/ + d yields n + + K/sup 0/, pi/sup + + d yields p + EPSILON /sup 0/ + K/sup +/, and pi /sup -/ + d yields n + EPSILON /sup 0/ + K/sup 0/. Compari son of data on differential cross section and symmetry of lambda decay for the first two reactions listed shows that the reactions, and hence K mesons, are charge symmetric. (J.R.D.)
