APPRAISING HANFORD WASTE DISPOSAL BY INTEGRATION OF FIELD TECHNIQUES

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4772305
Low- and intermediate-level liquid radioactive wastes have been discharged to the ground at Hanford for the past 16 yr. Field methods and techniques developed to help trace and define the movement of waste liquids through the soil are reviewed. The value is stressed of integrating data from several sources in evaluating ground water contamination patterns and movement. Data on vertical flow in wells, concentrations of specific BETA - gamma emitters in the ground water, temperature gradients, and data on the hydrology and geology of the region all provide valuable data applicable in predicting the movement of radioactive wastes.
