PREPARATION OF HfC BY HfO$sub 2$ REDUCTION BY HYDROGEN (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Zh. Neorgan. Khim.

A manometric anaiysis was made of the equilibrium in Hf-C-O at 1700 to 2600 deg K and 20 to 1000 mm Hg pressure in order to determine the conditions of HfC formation. At 2100 to 2600 deg K and 20 to 700 mm Hg the C content of HfC is near to stoichiometric HfC. An oxide-free carbide is formed at 2200 deg K even with CO pressure at 20 to 700 mm. Increases in CO pressure and temperature (up to 2300 deg K) do not affect HfC composition. (R.V.J.)
