MASS TRANSFER FROM A VERTICAL PLATE OF NAPHTHALENE TO A SURROUNDING AIR- FLUIDIZED BED
>A computer program was devised for the IBM 704, which can be used to correlate the mass transfer rate data from submerged surfaces to a surrounding fluidized bed. The general form of the equation is Nu' = a Re/sup n/ Sc/sup m/ (1 -- E)/sup c/ (G/G/sub m/)/sup f/. Data for the mass transfer from naphthalene plates in an air-fluidized bed were best correlated by the following least-square fit of 40 experiments. k'1/D = 18.9 (G1/ mu )/sup 0.56/ (G/G/sub m/)/sup 0.20/ or k'1/D = 13.8 (G1/ mu )/sup 0.64 (G/G/sub m/)/sup 0.38/ (1 -- E)/sup 0.64/. Improved techniques for measuring the mass transfer coefficients and suggestions for future mass and heat transfer studies are also outlined. (auth)
